Today for World Fair Trade Day under the theme of #PlanetFairTrade WFTO we are happy to publish this second edition of our annual Members Review. This year the review focuses on the climate commitment of European Fair Trade enterprises.

In uncertain times like these, where the pandemic is shaking the world, it is very important to not forget about the other big challenges humanity is facing. One of them is the climate crisis. While Fair Trade is often only connected to social justice this review should give better insights on the ways how Fair Trade enterprises deal with environmental challenges, it shall show innovative approaches and overall highlight how businesses can be shaped differently when they are led by a mission and not by profit primacy.

The Fair Trade principle 10 “Respect for the environment” has recently been revised by our members to put an even stronger emphasis on the protection of our planet and the environment.

As part of the EC-funded project “Trade Fair Live Fair” this publications aims at showing the contribution of Fair Trade towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular this review focuses on the SDGs 12 “Responsible consumption and production” and 13 “Climate Action”and how Fair Trade Enterprises use their mission-primacy to contribute to a greener and more responsible tomorrow.

In this review the following members and their practices are featured:

Additionally, you can find out more about WFTO Europe, our climate action on a policy level and how you can implement changes in you daily life.

We invite you to read the full Members Review here in English or Spanish and to learn more about Fair Trade and its connection to climate action.
