Amandla is a fairtrade enterprise from the Netherlands, based in the town of Culemborg, that was founded in 1992.

The meaning of the name Amandla comes from the South African Zulu language and means “strength, power to achieve”. This is exactly what Amandla does, helping disadvantaged artists to become self reliable.

Amandla has long time commercial relationships with art producers from Zimbabwe, in order to supply the dutch market.

They buy direct from artists and not through middle man.

The production is many time done by couples, where the man does the rough work and the woman does the finishing and polishing. On request the woman are paid independent from their husbands.

Amandla follows the 10 principles of fair trade.
