The House of Fair Trade was founded in 2001 in Gothenburg, Sweden, but has its origin in the first worldshop in Europe, Alternativ Handel, that opened in Gothenburg early 1969.
We have through sale to worldshops, giftshops, churches, museums and cafes continuously increased our turnover since inception. Today we see an increasing demand from other shops and organizations in Sweden as well as in Denmark, Norway and Finland.
The House of Fair Trade is an import and wholesale company that imports 100 % Fair Trade -produced food and craft products from Asia, Africa and Latin America. As members of World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) we commit ourselves to follow WFTO ‘s 10 Principles of Fair Trade, which is a sustainable trading partnership based on dialogue, transparency and respect. The aim is to create better working and living conditions for people in developing countries by providing improved economic conditions for farmers and workers, provide capacity building, combat child labor and discrimination, support the right to organize and raise environmental concerns. Through successful entrepreneurship we want to show that fair trade is beneficial for all parties. Our profit is invested into the business according to international Fair Trade principles.
